Itinerary
Alpe di Siusi is a snowshoer's paradise, offering 50km of specially prepared trails. All routes are avalanche-free and suitable for both beginners and more experienced hikers.
The 2176m / 7130' high Mount Bullaccia, located on Alpe di Siusi, is the perfect spot for an easy yet stunning loop trek.
Along the way, you'll pass by the Witches' Benches, an ancient site of worship since the Neolithic era. According to legend, the Witches of the Sciliar would gather here to practice their magical rituals and sit on the Bullaccia benches to take in the stunning views. And it's easy to see why! The panorama sweeps across the majestic peaks of Sassolungo, Sassopiatto, Sciliar, and Catinaccio, surrounding Europe’s largest high-altitude plateau.
Your body will be invigorated by the snow and sun, while your taste buds will be equally satisfied by the wholesome lunch you'll enjoy in a typical mountain rifugio.

Day 1
The path of Witches: snowshoeing on Alpe di Siusi
Right after breakfast, head up to Compaccio (1860m / 6102') and meet your professional UIAGM / IFMGA-certified mountain guide. After a quick briefing and equipment check, your adventure kicks off with a gondola ride, followed by a loop trek around Mount Bullaccia. Along the way, you'll visit the Witches' Benches (Hexenbänke in German)—unique porphyry rock formations shaped like armchairs, complete with backrests and armrests. The legends tied to this spot are fascinating, and your guide will gladly introduce you to the magical world of Dolomite sagas, filled with mythical creatures, maidens turned into beautiful flowers, and notorious witches who once roamed the Sciliar, causing all kinds of mischief and mayhem.Take in one of the most breathtaking views in all of the Dolomites, just as the witches did from their benches, after their secret magical celebrations. This loop also includes a stop at the Goller Kreuz, another stunning scenic spot that’s sure to leave you in awe.All that time in the snow and fresh mountain air is bound to make you hungry, so what better way to refuel than with a delicious lunch in a cozy, traditional mountain hut (included)?Wrap up your tour by returning to the starting point, feeling completely refreshed by the crisp, invigorating air, enchanted by magical tales of witches and elves, and maybe even a little tipsy from a shot (or two!) of homemade grappa!(~3,5 hours, 9km / 5,6 miles, 450m / 1476' ascent and descent.)
