Itinerary

Alpe di Siusi (or Seiser Alm in German) is the largest alpine plateau in Europe, with elevations ranging from 1,700 to 2,000 meters / 5,577' to 6,562'.

Set in the heart of the Dolomites like a precious gem, it is surrounded by two spectacular massifs: the Sciliar and the Catinaccio.

The plateau is dominated by the Sciliar massif, once an ancient coral reef.

Volcanic intrusions at its base have given rise to lush pastures and an extraordinary variety of wildflowers, nourished by the abundant mountain springs that flow from the rock and enrich the soil.

The Catinaccio massif, known as Rosengarten in German, owes its name to the legendary rose garden of King Laurin—a traditional tale that explains the mountain’s striking appearance and rosy hue.

Alpe di Siusi is a true haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering an incredible variety of trails that wind through meadows and forests, suitable for all levels of experience. These paths are perfect not only for hikers, but for cyclists as well.

Today’s adventure begins in Compaccio (Kompatsch), a charming alpine village situated at 1,680m / 5,512', easily reachable by car or public transport.

Compaccio serves as a key starting point for many local excursions thanks to its central location and connections to various trails and roads.

Be sure to dress appropriately for your mountain adventure. Pack a windbreaker, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a few extra layers—the weather can change quickly in the mountains.

Also, don’t forget your water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. While there are plenty of rifugios along the way, it's always best to be prepared for any situation.

Thanks to the use of an e-bike, this excursion is easy to tackle, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the stunning scenery without too much physical strain.

Day 1

E-bike loop on the Alpe di Siusi

In the morning, meet your professional mountain guide in Compaccio, where you’ll rent your e-bikes and helmets.
Set out toward Molignon (2,054m / 6,739'), following a gravel road that winds through lush meadows and alpine forests. The route is well-maintained and allows for a comfortable ride, even on the steeper stretches. Rifugio Molignon is an ideal place to stop, rest, and enjoy a traditional Tyrolean lunch featuring local specialties such as Speck, mountain cheeses, and classic desserts like apple strudel. From its terrace, take in sweeping views of the surrounding peaks, including the majestic Catinaccio range.
The trail from Rifugio Molignon to Saltria follows a mix of paved and gravel roads, gently descending into the valley. While the descent is generally smooth, stay in control of your bike—especially on steeper sections. This trail is also shared with hikers, so caution and respect are essential to ensure everyone’s safety.
Saltria is a small alpine village at 1,800m / 5,905', home to a few rifugios and tourist facilities—making it the perfect spot for a short break before tackling the climb to Punta d’Oro. While this section can feel challenging on a traditional bike, an e-bike makes the ascent much more manageable.
From the top, enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the Sciliar massif and the Fassa Dolomites—an ideal photo opportunity not to be missed. After soaking in the scenery, descend gently back to Compaccio along a wide, well-maintained road.
