Itinerary

A via ferrata is a route equipped with metal cables and fixed anchor points, allowing access to a peak or alpine destination without requiring expert mountain climbing skills and experience. Originally constructed in the Dolomites, particularly during World War I, these paths were used by soldiers to reach their outposts on mountain summits.
Today, via ferratas are among the most popular attractions in these mountains. They are classified according to their level of difficulty: the easier routes are suitable for everyone, including children, while the tougher ones require a higher degree of experience, commitment, and skill.
In the area surrounding Cortina d’Ampezzo these routes feature a mix of hiking and climbing stretches, along itineraries equipped with metal cables, ladders, or suspended bridges to assist hikers on their journey. The necessary equipment includes a specific harness and two carabiners, which must be secured to the cable.
Initially, it is quite normal to focus exclusively on using your hands and arms; with time and experience you will learn that your feet and legs also play a very important and active role. Besides brackets and steps, you can also rely on rock indentations and protrusions for extra foot and hand support. With just a little effort, your cable will be considered a mere safety feature, while evaluating and relying on natural rock features will become more automatic—a transition that is as memorable as it is rewarding.
We are confident that these three days and two nights in the heart of the Dolomites will not only teach you how to hike a proper via ferrata and climb real rock faces but also allow you to develop a true fascination for alpine mountaineering.
